Actually menapause doesn't usually start until after 50 so I'm not sure why so many answerers have given that as the reason.

Being a woman over 40 (47 to be exact) I can tell you that a lot has to do with society. In our world, young women are the prize. Everyone wants to be young and beautiful. Women are judged on their bodies and faces. As we get older...we begin to lose that. That's why so many women have plastic surgery...they are trying to hang on to the thing that makes them feel like "somebody."

Add that to the other issues...children leaving home, your body not responding to diet and exercise like it did before, goals change, retirement becomes a reality, menapause is just around the corner etc. etc. I think women have a much tougher time in this world then men.

Look at TV for example. It's not unusal to see a fat, bald, old man doing the weather...or even the news. You never see a fat, old woman (or bald) doing the news or weather...at least not where I live.

Men are judged and valued differently. They do not rely on their looks and bodies to make them valuable.

We talk about aging gracefully and that can be done...but it takes some real inner fortitude and if your married...it helps if your husband only has eyes for you!

For me, the over 40 stage brought about many new changes emotionally, physically and socially. Newly divorced it has given me the ability to find myself and my independence as well as my strength as a woman making my own decisions. After a marriage of 18 years, it was like starting over and being optimistic and positive even in the times of difficulties has made me stronger. Being this age gives me the maturity to work through issues. Sexually, omg it has been great. Definately 40 is the new thirty. No more baggage, kids almost grown and whoever I have relationships with now, there is less baggage and responsibility and I can focus on a relationship that men and women should have.

Actually a woman's body goes through some change every 10 years. A woman can have some control of the menopausal changes by changing food intake and exercise.

Most women go through their sexual peak around the age of 40, and it can last for about 7 years, but again this is due to diet and exercise.

I think menopause is used an excuse. I am turning 40 in three weeks and I am having the time of my life, emotionally, physically, mentally and SEXUALLY!

40 is the new 30!

Women who used to be able to use their looks and youth to get places in life find that no longer to be true. People who used to take them more seriously or listen to them simply because they were young or attractive stop paying attention to them and stop including them. They learn what many learned much younger, that this is not a level playing field. It is still very difficult for a woman to make her way in the world. You can work your *** off and do and say all the right things and still get no where. So pretty women use their looks to counter that until they get to a certain age. As to those who mentioned menopause, you're 10 years early. It's not menopause. Average age of menopause is 52.

It changes for all of us, commonly known as the 'change of life' and as we go through it, the hormones are all upside down. Basically we have a major sex drive, and a very short temper. It's part of life, and it will pass. It is the end of childbearing time, and the beginning of a whole new phase. There's a lot of upheaval, and it can last a good 10 years, altogether. Having a baby at this time stalls everything, and starts it over again. Can be a bit rough (did that myself x3)

Also, at 40, we're pretty confident of what we know, who we are, what we like, and what we want. More than ever before. We can look different, if you miss the quiet little mouse who wasn't quite sure of herself.

It is the opposite of the male midlife crisis; we come into a time of knowing and being sure of ourselves. We don't do a whole bunch of silly stuff to prove we 'still have it' We know we got it, now.

I completely agree which comprise your comments. Having suffered with Anorexia, i'm able to definitely say that society's impact is amazingly detrimental and destructive to the minds of young women on the instant. i think of the main important situation is the modelling industry, that deems any lady over a length 4 as fat by making use of modelling standards. I only desire a number of those in the modelling industry ought to work out lots of the questions published in this very web site by making use of girls as youthful as 10 and eleven, who think of they are fat, because of the fact they do no longer weight 80lb. this is unquestionably sickening and something desires to be finished to alter the full concept of what's healthful and what isn't. Take care : )

I'm 48. I'm not menopausal. I don't have kids. I'm going back to school.
I'm having the time of my life.
I'm more confident, secure, assertive, and sexy than I was ever before...just got back from a week of sea-kayaking.
50 looks great to me. What's upside down?

I actually think that women feel more confident when they reach their 40's and many times become more independent and comfortable with themselves.
