dude,
that sounds almost the EXACT same as me.
im the normal type in school, i hang out with different types of people.
but when people ask me what group i go under, i just say im being myself.
it totally catches them off guard.
but my point is i really agree with you, but unfortunantly this is reality and this is how it is for some time.
let me guess, you try to avoid jocks, then when they get in your way they shove you to the side and think they are better than you, at least that what happens at my school.
or preps, when you talk to them, they raise their chin and kind of give you the cold shoulder.
so i hope this info could help you some.

Cliques ARE normal teen behavior. People like to associate with others who have similar interests or beliefs. Being rude to people outside your group is a way of affirming your status and standing, both in the group, and as compared to the outsider.
Basically, it's establishing a pecking order - If I'm rude to you, you must be inferior to me, and so your group is inferior to my group. Don't worry, it tends to sort itself out as people mature. They usually tend to see the benefits of diversity, and become more tolerant of others. Not all do, of course, but that's human nature, too.

No it is not right, but it happens and HAS happened for generations. Even back in Grandmas day. Can fight it. But its great that you can befriend so many different types of people. That will bring you far in life. Remember after school comes reality.

no offense, but welcome to life. In the real world, there are cliques also -- people tend to hang out with people who are like them and have similar experiences, skills, beliefs or values.
The meanness subsides, but not the division.
