Short stories are very hard to sell. You need to get an agent (who probably won't accept a short story unless you are willing to turn it into a full length one). Best bet is to enter the story into a competition; there are plenty of them advertised in Magazines and on the internet.

Having worked for both publishers, agents and newspapers (as a sub-editor), never approach a publisher directly; they don't read anything. Find yourself an agent. Once you have an agent, you're three quarters of the way there.
Oh, and buy the Writers and Artists Yearbook - it's your best bet for sourcing an agent.
You do have some rather glaring grammatical errors. You may want to look into that - the opening should be:
"This is a short story that grows into the future, beyond the human psyche. Spreading into territory where only seeds are sown....".
I understand the desire for emphasis, but the staccato statement used again and again loses impact. On the bright side, you can spell. On the dark side, it's worrying that you think this can only be vanity published - is that a what you really think of your skills?

First of all, I hope your story is in better grammar than your question. You have written a story not wrote. sheesh!
Secondly publishers for the most part do not read single short stories. They have really no use for them.
What you could do is Google anthologies seeking submissions or e publishers. Anthologies are books of several authors stories put together. And many e publishers offer short stories to download for readers for a small fee. You wont make much money - most anthologies pay around 5 - 25 dollars but at least it would be in a book.
There are many sci fi anthologies out there. But it will take a lot of time and effort to surf and find them. There are lists online though.

You've WRITTEN a short story. Sort out your grammar and spelling or no publisher or agent will take you at all seriously.
Most publishers don't publish short stories by unknown authors anyway, there is no market for them.
You could try buying some literary magazines and entering it into some short story competitions.
You should not need to spend money to get published. It is only vanity publishing that costs money and it probably means your writing isn't good enough yet if no one will publish it.

Start by finding a co. that sells your genre. Get a publisher and agent guide at your local bookstore and look at all the agents to see which accepts your style of writing.
I must say that it is good to have an agent - but don't let that stop you.
Good Luck :)

CHeck your local bookstore for this years edition of the writer's guide to publishers (several with similar titles). They will list hundreds of publishers, what genre of stories they are looking for, and how to submit (whole story, outline only, first five pages only, hard copy, e-mail, etc.) It is different for every publisher. So there is no one answer.

Yeah ok Stephen King - Listen - if you can't be arsed to write a full novel - how good are you anyway? And you need to spend? Thats not the idea - they pay you if its good. So unless that happens...read between those lines. Sounds s*hit as well.

Don't waste a publisher's time. You can barely construct a sentence. Learn to write coherently first, then come back to us.

You should read "The First Five Pages" available from www.amazon.co.uk if this is your first book. It tells you about how to get your book published.
