Please provide a link, before deciding I need to know the context of the statement if in fact it was made.
Thanks for the link but what I read was that violence in our society takes many forms, from a murderous rampage to an extremely offensive statement. I have always believed that the coarseness and violence in our culture is kind of top-down -- kids see our country handling stuff with bombs and guns, so hey, bombs and guns must be the way to go.
The statement was a little subtle but it was not equating the two. And by the way it is a form of violence to destroy someone's livelihood by yanking his job, sending it offshore for cents on the dollar. Guess I'm looking through a different glass...and willing to look for meaning not just something to attack.
And no I am not an Obama supporter.

Like most Communists, Obama is over the top in his comments. Don Imus,( another Communist, I may add. ), used poor judgment. Cho was a Demon Possessed Murderer. No comparison.

Well it is a stretch to put the two together in the same category but they can be compared if you think about how good morals in this country are on a sharp decline.

Ludicrous !
Another thing that's ludicrous that emanated from his uninformed mouth. . . . . He's now proposing that we double the amount of money given to poor countries . . . including Radical Islamists !!!
He goes on to project that they'll use this money for schooling and education . He's completely uninformed, because right now they do teach their children, but it's not what we would hope . They teach them to hate and kill us all . Any doubts ? Search it yourself and you'll see it's very, very easy to find !!

I think it is dead on...the moral downfall of society is largely to blame for the upswing in violence in the past several years.

ITS WRONG!!!! What about all those Black rappers that rap about killing cops and women and sniches? I seriously doubt you'll here Obama comment on that at all. If Imus was not white, you would not have heard a word about it. Obama, Sharpton, Jackson, and the rest are racist biggots.

It makes a point to the insensitive society in which we live.
If we don't look at the underlying causes of hate, bigotry, poverty, and social injustice we will continue to revisit these same issues again and again.
