Of course she'll walk again. My 7 year old broke his leg so badly last year that he had to have a metal rod inserted into the bone to stabilize it until it healed, it was then removed. He's as good as new now. Little ones heal really quick. Mine was up and running around like nothing had happened in little over a month. I was given no specifics on what to feed him, but I did give him lots of yogurt, it's supposed to help fight/ prevent any sort of bacterial infections that could occur.

A break can occur in any of several different bones and can take a variety of forms. Healing time depends on the location and nature of the fracture, and can take from weeks to months.
She'll experience pain, swelling, bruising. She may have difficulty moving it, or may not be able to move it at all.
To reduce the swelling, keep the injured leg on pillows while lying down and on a stool when sitting. Apply ice to the injury for 15 to 20 minutes each hour for the first 1 to 2 days. Put the ice in a plastic bag and place a thin towel between the bag of ice and the cast. Check the skin around the cast every day. You may put lotion on any red or sore areas. If the cast gets a little wet, it can be dried with a hair dryer.
Don't worry, of course she will be able to walk again. I hope she is up and about again in no time.

i had an accident just before christmas my right eg was broken so badly they inserted a permanent titanium rod the full lenght of my thigh, at the time of the accident my leg was behind my back and my foot was a pillow, i also had 17 fracture ribs and a cracked sternum! now four months later i am walking with a cane, the best thing is to take her to the pool everyday (i didnt have a cast) so when the cast comes off take her to the pool, and get a physiotherapist to help, kids heal a lot faster than adults, but the pool really di it for me walking again, as you body is 4 times lighter in water so you can easily support your weight and get used to walking again.
I drink heaps of milk, be positive and dont expect overnight miracles, have patients she will be fine!

I have had both my legs broken, and I am still able to get up and walk around. I am not in a wheelchair, I'm fine. :-)
Your niece will heal in about 3 months. Just make sure she eats enough calcium to help her bones be strong. Milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc..
If she doesn't like milk, then you can sneak milk in and she won't even know it, because pudding is made with milk. Does she like chocolate pudding?? Another way to sneak milk into a child's diet is to give them milkshakes.
And if she is lactose intollerant, then she drink have soy milk.
Cheers and tell her to get well soon :-)
