In the movie Superman Returns, Lex Luthor steals a chunk of Kryptonite from a museum with a list of substances that it's made of. Scientists have recently discovered a mineral in Serbia with the same chemical composition. They called Jadarite. See the story here:

It's either pure coincidence or Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel did their homework when writing Superman. Writers often do a lot of research and speak with experts to get ideas for their stories. Scientists have a fairly good idea of the possible combinations and permutations of materials that can be produced by matter in the periodic table whether the material has been discovered in nature or not. It's possible that they asked an expert to come up with an exotic material that hasn't been seen but seems plausible. Good writers strive for plausibility whenever possible.

We should keep some handy, just in case we're ever invaded by super-powered Kryptonians. After all, in the DC Universe, Krypton exploded, but maybe it didn't in our Universe. So the invasion could come any day now.

Be prepared!

No it's not the same. It doesn't contain fluorine. Close but no cigar.
