I've got a pond with a family of frogs in it and some tadpoles but I noticed this morning that there's a dead squashed frog outside my house and I'm worried its one of mine. Do frogs mate for life or will my widow get a new partner? Will she leave or will another come? I need an expert on froggy bereavement. I'm gutted!

Although adult frogs usually return to the same pond every spring to breed, they are totally promiscuous and only pair during the mating act. It is common to see several males trying to mate the same female, then once they have achieved the act they take no further interest with that female.

I think frogs are quite slutty, look how much spawn they leave all over the place. Theres no way all that mess comes from having it away with just one partner........
