I still believe it to this day. No one has ever told me different!
I also don't open the oven door until the time has expired for doing it. Then I insert a toothpick in the center and pull it back out quickly to see if the cake is done.
I see no reason to change what my Grandma and my Mom have done for many years. Their baked goodies have always come out excellent and just thinking about those items makes my mouth water and also makes me long for my Grandma.
Thankfully, my Mom is still alive.

LOL. My brother was playing the trumpet while my mom was baking bread and the sound made the break collapse.
The kicker was that my Dad loved the thicker bread and now he asks for that "Trumpet" bread. ha.
Cakes, particularly light cakes can collapse. But unless its a bundt cake or chiffon cake, I don't think it happens very often.

I heard it, but on TV and probably from an I Love Lucy episode.
That was back in the day where people actually made cakes from scratch instead of today, where pour water into a pre-made mix. I asked my grandmother about that and she said the no jumping rule was true before Betty Crocker came around.

Yep...and back in the old days it would. Stabalized baking powder has stopped some of the problem but some things will still "fall" from jumping aroung...Like souffles.

My mother cooked delicious food, but she never baked a cake. Now that I think about it, I wonder why?

I was told not to open the oven door until the timer went off. But I don't recall the jumping around one.
