In my opinion, politicians should let the soldiers do their job and stfu till the soldiers say they are done.

I'd love to put the troops on the planes and leave by noon. But that's not going to happen, and it shouldn't.
We essentially terminated the government (actually, we literally terminated the government) and now it's our responsibility to assist in the re-establishment of law and order.
By putting benchmarks in place for the drawdown of troops, and setting timemarked goals for the Iraqi government, we send the clear signal that we aren't going to be there forever, and that the Iraqis must get their act in gear. Four years have passed, and the police and army are still riddled with violent sectarians.
I saw a PBS special America at a Crossroads. An American patrol was tasked to raid a suspected insurrgent safehouse, in concert with the Iraqi police. When they showed up at the Iraqi police station, it was empty. The mission was aborted.
Clearly, this kind of performance has to end.

In my opinion stop the war right now, because Americans are losing at this point, they cant keep the country in peace and they are making lots of trouble for the citizens and for themselves. Why would they stay in there it is getting worst and worst everyday.
To JD so you are saying that before the Americans troops got in Iraq the Iraqi Security Force weren't capable of securing Iraq that is just another excuse to make to let the Americas stay in Iraq!

I would continue to secure Iraq from the insurgency until the Iraqi Security force was capable of manageing their own country. Alot of mistakes have been made and that is not debated but it is our responsibility to secure that nation before we leave. If we pulled out now don't you think the headlines in the New York Times would be "Insurgents Defeat US Military in Iraq" And don't you think that from this point forward that IED's and car bombs would be the weapon of choice to be used against us...even on our own soil? I don't know about everyone else but I certainly don't want to tell all the terrorists in the world that in order to defeat the US then the strategy should be to bomb schools churches and hospitals.

TO SPCBURN: I didn't know the soldiers were given executive privileges...the Generals are, and they have told the "evil politicians" we have done all we can!
There is an old saying: "If you find yourself in a hole, quit digging!"
I can't see how continuing to screw up by "staying the course" can be be a good thing.
Let me give another example where cut-and-run is preferable:
Jimmy and Bobby are in a bar, when Jimmy notices a woman looking at him from across the bar. He excuses himself from Bobby, struts up, and begins to court her. As the night progressed Jimmy has made terrific progress with the woman, who seems to be a "sure thing". Later that night they are fooling around in the bar parking lot in the woman's car, when Jimmy realizes that the woman isn't really a woman! Jimmy's initial reaction is to "cut and run", but then he begins to wonder what Sammy would say about the whole ordeal. "Do you want to stop?" the woman asks, Jimmy looked at her and said "I'm gonna stay the course, baby"!

I would stop the terrorists - by fighting until we they are defeated.
Stopping at a predetermined date is ridiculous. If it's not worth fighting past a certain date, it's not worth fighting at all.
I think withdrawing without defeating our goals would be disastrous.

The Iraq must be stopped in order to save money for the US coffers and save American soldiers from dying.
