i am basiially trying to do a ration of teams offensive lines and defense's ability to get sacks

what id like to do is be able to divide teams sacks by total plays involved in to get a ration

such as New England allowed X amount of sacks on Tom Brady in Y amount of plays. so every (blank) amount of plays they allow a sack.

and the other way. NE had X amount of sacks on defense and we're on the field for y amount of plays whats the ratio

id like to do this for every NFL team is there a good ref page to go to

any help would be great and thanks in advance

go to NFL.com. you can do a search on stats, by team, and you can get game-by game counts, or season total counts. if you just want to do a general study, that website will show you how many plays a team ran in the course of a season (Typically between 900-1000. most teams average 60 offensive plays a game). it might show you total pass attempts (550) total rush attempts (400), so then you could base your ratio on pass plays, and not ALL plays. you can also fin ddefensive stats there. sacks allowed, for how many yards, etc.

if you want to look at it on a weekly basis, you'l need to do a game-by-game analysis, which that site also has. that will take you MUCH longer to track, but give you better data, as you can analyze the match ups for which those stats occurred.

start at NFL.com though for sure.

It the early days of the NFL and college football, it was common for players to play on both offense and defense. "Two-way" players were the norm, and guys who played just offense or just defense were the exception. Sammy Baugh, for example, played for Washington from 1937 to 1952. When he retired, he held 13 NFL records at three different positions... quarterback, safety, and punter.

Uh...The team has statisticians keeping track of plays...but figure there are probably 50 offensive plays a game on average per team...(in the NFL)...depending on the defense...It's really impossible to gauge because you have good offense and bad offense, and good defense and bad defense...and the numbers will be higher on a good offense, and higher on a bad defense...

Other than using NFL.com to go through every game individually I don't know.

Maybe the CHFF.com guys do. (link #2)
