Unfortunately you have not told us how old you are, as age can have an effect on the frequency and severity of periods.
Changes in the cycle are nothing to be really worried about except when they become really painful or distressing.
One suggestion would be to go on some for of oral contraceptive as these have a possotive effect on your menstral cycle.

You should go and see a gynaecologist. It could be some serious problem. Don't take health for granted. I used to have heavy flow also. Not as bad as you. But I knew something was not right but just ignore it. At the end, I notice a lump at my abdomen and diagnosed to have a lot of fibroids in my uterus and ovary. At the end, my uterus and one ovary has to be removed.

Actually your very wrong if you said that it is normal, because according to the book menstruation is last about 3-4 days not longer than 6 days.Meaning its must better to consult your health care provider for good and safety purposes.

What you are having is called breakthrough bleeding which can act a lot like a period. It can be caused by an infection such as to the cervix as well as hormone imbalances. I would definitely recommend that you see your dr to have this situation evaulated to see what they think could be going on.

I've never had a period that long. I would have to agree to double check with a doctor to see what's up.
