The horizon is a good argument for a spherical earth.

The shape of other planets is a good argument for a spherical earth.

That all the time on some part of the earth the sun is directly over head is a good argument for a spherical earth.

Unless this Mr. Friedman is from medieval times I would say he's a nutjob.

It is never flat. It's an OBLATE SPHEROID.
It means that it is a rounded shape with a bulge around the equator.

Interestingly enough there exists in UK a 'flat-earth society'... unfortunately however, if it were true, ships etc would tend to go over the edge. Airline pilots , at night, would not have anything underneath them to land on ! !
