Sometimes a tiny part of the placenta stays in the uterus and needs to be removed by a doctor before the bleeding will stop. If this is the case, the new mother's body might not recognize that the baby has really been born and the production of breast milk may be low.
Please take your wife to her doctor to be checked.
Oh, and congratulations on your new family member.

Some women bleed more, some bleed less. What I would be watching for is the amount of blood... she should be having a lighter flow by now... and the color.. if it is bright red, I would suggest getting her in to see a doctor. The doctor usually wants to see the woman around now anyhow to be sure she is healing well. And how does she feel?? If she feels ok, then chances are that she is fine, but if she is feeling really weak and tired, I would be wondering about something being wrong. Take her in to see doctor anyhow just to be on the safe side.

Yes, this definitely needs to be checked out by her dr to see what is going on because something may not have healed completely.
