Well most of these people are half right.A battery should be charged with a 12 volt battery charger only. You should only jump start a car if your broke down somewhere and stranded. If you jump start a car and drive it it can damage the alternator by causing it to work very hard at what is called a full field charge. When the alternator is in full field it will get very hot and can burn up and fail completely.Especially if the battery in question is bad .If you need to jump start the vehicle, let it sit with the cables attatched and the other vehicle running for 15 minutes or so.Make sure you have good connections to both batteries. You can check this by turning on lights in the dead vehicle. If the lights are bright you have a good connection. To test the battery it needs to be fully charged. If it will not take a charge, replace it.It is bad and needs to be replaced.PLEASE do not take your car to Autozone! They are parts salesmen and should not be allowed to test vehicles unless they are CERTIFIED.I am a master certified automotive technician with 25 years experience and I have problems with customers all the time that bought a part from autozone on their recommendation that didnt fix the problem. Most repair shops will charge and test a battery for free for you.Or at least a minimal charge like 5 dollars to charge the battery. To pay for the electricity.I do it for free at tommy's auto reair in Novi Michigan where I currently work.It only takes a few minutes to check the entire charging and starting system. If your car wont start but the lights and radio work, you could have a problem with the cables or starter. If you still have problems you will have to take it and have it looked at.But take it to someone you trust, not autozone.I woudnt let them fix a bicycle.

I think Auto Zone does free battery recharging
and if not, then get someone to give you a jump start
and then run your vehicle for a half hour or so so that
the battery has time to charge up before you shut the
car off
Your battery could be running down because your
alternator is bad in your car
After you start your car finally, unhook your battery
cables and if the car keeps started then your alternator
is fine, you probably just left your headlights on or
something

Your car's battery should be charged by the alternator in your car. The engine spins a belt which is attached to the alternator which in turn transmits this inertia into electricity which charges your battery.
If you battery is old it may need replacing. Go to your local auto parts store (O'Reilly, AutoZone) and first ask them to test your alternator (this should be free) --- if they tell you your alternator is o.k. --- then have them find a battery replacement for your model vehicle. Then remove the positive and negative terminals from the old battery. Remove the battery. Apply the lube they give you to the terminals. Install new battery and screw terminals back on.
This should fix you up..
Hope this helps.

You can buy a battery charger, or have it cahrged at a gas station. If you can get the car running, the alternator should recharge it, if it won't, then get the charging system fixed.

First you should buy a new battery. Then hook that battery up to the old one. That should recharge the car battery in no time.

Have some one jump start you with a pair of jumper leads and let it run for a while before switching off. If your battery keeps going flat have your altenator checked.
