Yes I AGREE as well! Not just with the general bias, but it just goes to show you how everyone thinks so alike anymore! I am obsessed with thunderstorms and severe weather, not because it could potentially hurt people, (people should be smart enough to get indoors when this happens) but because it is exciting, mother nature putting on a show! Rain is a necessity, and so is wind, water, and erosion. Without weather incidences, the worlds eco system would shut down and run awry! Not to mention that HEAT kills more people than the cold, you can always get warmer if you are cold, but if you are in a room naked and sweltering, there is not much more you can do to cool off! I just don't get these people that like the sweltering sun all the time and who love to sweat and sunburn themselves. I enjoy the sun on my skin, but not unless there is an electrifyling thunderstorm in the forecast to cool you off when the day is through, HOORAY for your question, I have often thought about this myself! Have a great day!

I'll try to answer this one since this is my line of work...
The problem is that every person is different and while some think that sunny and 75 may be perfect, others believe that it's too warm and some think it's actually too cold.
We try to appeal to the 'overall' concensus on how people will react to the approaching weather. For example, if it's the weekend and storms are forecasted, MOST people would be dissapointed as the unsettled weather would interfere with their outdoor plans. Granted, not everyone will feel that way, but many will.
On the other hand, you've had 40 rain-free days in a row and brush fires are developing, crops are dying, and lakes are receeding due to a lack of rain, a hot, dry day may not be all that great.
And while the media does try to hype certain events, especially severe weather, because of possible dangers to anyone outside, most meteorologists try to stay as neutral as possible when expressing opinions about the weather for this very reason.
Hope this helps!

I would have to agree with you that weather forecasts should be unbiased. It is up to the individual to determine whether they like the weather or not. I tend to write unbiased forecasts, such as "a possible thunderstorm" rather than "risk of a thunderstorm". Some forecasters see them as "bad" and hence always see the negative side of them. However, most of what you hear comes from weather presenters, who tend to create their own versions and opinions of the written forecasts to make their presentation more personal. But that is the media, i guess.

Yes, I agree! I love the cold, rainy, overcast days because they make my general melancholy attitude seem more "normal," if you will. It's just no fun being a "dark cloud" on a sunny day, so I cherish every drop of rain that falls here in the Houston area.

Absolutely, I feel the way that you do. AND I have brought the subject up with certain people who always state what a beautiful day it is when the sun is out but yet, gripe, when it rains...........I always remind them , that if it were not for rain, we all go extinct like the dinosaurs.

You cannot say like that.Generally, clear skies, light winds are associated with high pressure system which do not bring destruction whereas low pressure systems cause destructions because of heavy rains, snow and strong winds. So storms and floods ae associated with low pressure.Likewise cloudiness is also usually associated with low pressure which causes destruction. So it is also seen as sign of bad weather.
