Chronic heartburn is usually from acid reflux - stomach acid is getting past the little valve and into your esophagus. You also should know some natural ways to treat your heartburn. Learn them here

The most immediate thing you can do is to stop drinking coffee and cola. Smoking is not good either, but that might be harder to stop. Don't over-eat. Don't lie down too soon after eating. Don't burp too much - this carries acid up with the burp.

I have acid reflux. My doctor told me that chocolate, spicy foods, dark soda's, alcohol and cigarettes contribute to my acid reflux and it does! I take Omeprazole and it helps 100%! I occasionally have to have my Tums cocktail depending on what I eat or drink (alcohol) or double up on my meds. I had ran out of my medication once and had bought some Prilosec and it worked really good. I had it so bad in the beginnig that I would get upset to my stomach and vomit acid. It does not taste good. Try the Prilosec. If not it's best to see a doctor. Good Luck!

Yes, cutting out (or reducing) alcohol intake will certainly help: alcohol can make the esophagal sphincter more loose, allowing acid back up the esophagus and causing heartburn. Alcohol also inflames the stomach lining and increases acid secretion.

Since you posted this in the Alternative Medecine category, I'm assuming you want to know about non-drug treatments. try peppermint or chamomile tea: both are great for calming the digestive system, especially peppermint.

First of all you need to change our diet!
No alcohol, fried foods, coffee, caffeine, citric fruits, chocolate, tomato based foods.
Supplements you can take: Aloe Vera Juice heals the digestive tract, Digestive enzymes ( papaya, bromelain, pancreatin) needed for digestion, B-complex plus B-12 needed for digestion.
You can also use the following teas: papaya, catnip, fennel, ginger, marshmallow root.
Apple Cider Vinegar is also good to take with water.
Another recommendation is to take a big glass of water when you start to feel the acid.
Hope you feel better!

i have acid reflux too, it sucks, i know.
what works for me is sitting with good posture and experimenting with various drinks (not all in the one night!)

I found that white wine sets it off.
And drinking a lot of coke in mixers can set it off too.
Milky drinks are the worst for me.
vodka sets it off too.
and beer can.

so i drink select champagnes and liquiours, and lead a heartburn free life now.

Organic apple cider vinegar.
Slowly sip a small glass. It works for lots of other stomach problems as well.

Make sure it's organic!
