What is the difference?

I read many articles where they explain all about the organization changed and what not, but doesn't really give me concrete details as to what is really what.

AFAIK,

sata 1 have transfer rate only 1.5Gb/s
sata 2 got 3.0Gb/s

you need sata 2.

You need SATA ll HDD. Make sure your motherboard supports SATA ll also. Otherwise the SATA ll drive would just default to SATA (1.5Gb/s) speed. Read more here:

These things are backwards compatible and, as the actual disk speed in unlikely to exceed 70 MBytes/second, it will make very little difference.
