Hockey is anything but boring. It's not all about watching a puck move around the rink (if it were, it would be boring) but there is so much more involved. There is fighting, checking (big hits) crazy goal tending (Go Nabby!), unbelievable stick handling and more. And there is nothing boring about seeing a player laying on the ice waiting for a stretcher to be brought out. It is such an exciting sport because it's rare when they score. I can't stand sports like basketball because they are continually scoring... back and forth, back and forth.....
But to be fair, i didn't fall in love with the game till my parents got season tickets and I got to go all the time. And the more you learn about it, the more fun it is.
And why would you post this question in the Hockey section where you know only fans of Hockey would be looking?

I really don't consider it boring, there's non-stop action and back and forth play...if anything is boring its baseball, I love it but really....on average there's 12 minutes when the ball is in play out of a 3+ hour game. In hockey you never what will happen next, it's intense. I watch football as well, and even then there's a stop between every play. Hockey is one of the few sports where there is basically non-stop play until the players stop it. You have to make decisions on the fly and split-second moves that could mean the difference between a win and a loss.
If there's one thing I don't like about hockey, it's the best-of-7 playoffs - football is much better, IMO with every game being a do-or-die affair. It makes it more exciting.

Hockey is the only game with a unique blend of anticipation and non stop excitement. The key to learning to enjoy hockey is having a team to root for and to get to know the personality's of the players. When you have a team that you generally want to win you start to pick up on the rules and intricacies of the game. The games within a game. I would suggest watching the game with some die-hards and let them point all these things out to you as you watch...after a while it will draw you in. I went through the same process as I learned the game and the players...now I'm a die hard fan.
Oh yea...It helps to follow a team that is good! lol

Hockey is not boring. Not as much as other sports:
Basketball - Good sport, but only interesting in the last 5 minutes of the game when the score is close... The rest of the game is back and forth at a slow pace. I still like the sport, but I sit back on the couch relaxing until that last 5 minutes.
Baseball - Pretty boring sport, but thats because baseball is all about numbers. Its nice to see the big hits and the nice catches, but thats about it for me... Playoff time is the best time to watch.
Football - ......... well nothing bad to say about football.
Hockey is a fast paced, hard hitting game. Its hard to follow it if you're just getting into it. Alot of people try to look for the puck at first. Try to follow the players instead..... Its like watching a bunch of birds flying. 1 bird takes a dive and they all follow...... Watching the players is the same thing. The puck goes around the boards, and all the players turn towards it... After a while you dont even need to see the puck cause you already know where it is... Thats when you can get interested in speed and the hits... The last thing is the goal-keeping... A puck flying at the goalie at 90 mph, with traffic in the way, then gets deflected... Its either one hell of a shot, or one hell of a save.
Find 1 team to support (a good one) and learn to watch the game... Next thing you know you will realize the entire game is a nailbiter.
GO WINGS!!!!!

Honestly because you are trying to just turn it on with out understanding the game. Take a little time to learn about it and it gets more exciting. Watch it with someone who has an understanding and doesn't mind answering questions and it may get more exciting. It's like people who have gone to the American Football section of Yahoo and whined about why does the play stop so much. Well if you watch the game and understand it you don't really notice the stops to the degree those people do. You have to appreciate the little parts of the game as well to really think it is exciting. You have to enjoy seeing a "crisp" pass, seeing a perfect attempt at the tic-tac-toe play getting the shot on net, even if isn't a goal, enjoy seeing that great save, seeing a defense fall at just the right moment to block a shot. See it is a bunch of little things that make the game great, not just the goals, or fights. More power to you that you have at least showed an interest in it, maybe it is just a sport you won't like though. Personally I don't get how people watch things like golf.

The only ways to answer your "question" posed is "Yes, that would be a plausible versus situation." or "I'll take good hockey, please." By the way...the Devils made it to the second round, so they're probably playing "good" boring hockey. Hitchcock only coaches one team... Did you mean "any team Hitchcock has coached"? As for "grab butt teams": You see more butt grabbing in other sports, but mostly every hockey team has moments after a goal is scored or a game is won where a butt is grabbed or patted in celebratory spirit. It takes a man's man. I think the better question is, of course, "What are the attributes of both sides in a good fans vs bad fans situation?" Good fans... - know every team has a system and different systems have won the Stanley Cup, because what matters is that the team sticks to their own system and plays well with it - are less likely to accuse a team that won the Stanley Cup (Devils in '03) four years ago of playing "bad" hockey without any due reasons - etc. Bad fans... - whine - consider their opinions the ultimate form of fact - etc.

I agree. Hockey is highly boring, specially if your a football fan. I think its why to slow no fights like back in the day . To me any sport is boring . I barely like football and only watch it with friends. But I think Soccer is the most boring sport in the world!!!! My ex was hugely into it I'd fall asleep ever time . So yeah.

as a mexican american who grew up playing ice hockey and watching it and going to sharks games I cant see the logic behind it not being exciting!! I mean its got everything a sport would want. fighting, high flying action, in my opinion the most talented players in the world play hockey, believe it or not being able to stick handle and keep your head up while skating with good balance and being able to dodge a hit is quite difficult brotha, but alas I guess americans like simplier games like baseball were you can go to the bathroom, get a drink, make a sandwich, pick up the kids and itll still be the same batter it was when you left, not trying to start anything but you dont see us hockey fans going to other sports blogs and bash their sports, show some respect for us and the atheletes who play hockey because quite frankily when you come here and diss a sport that has given me so much really pisses me off and makes me wish I could get you on the ice and just catch you with your head down!

Uh!!! What are you talking about! Are you smelling too many paint fumes!!! First of all skating in and of itself is a bit difficult to do, I mean seriously two blades to run you all over the ice! Okay now try crossing over forwards and backwards then add a puck and a stick, a goal and few Guys and man that makes things even more difficult. Checks everywhere and fights can ensue. Hockey is the most lively sport ever!!!

Its not, you are probably just a dumbass who thinks baseball is exciting.
Lets see other sports.
Soccer/football- A little bit more boring than hockey
US Football- Not particularly boring
Basketball- Not boring, just stupid rules.
Golf and Baseball are too easy to mock, so I won't bother
