AS a general rule, when you're on a roll, keep going. So, if you just got your Masters, and your mind is centered on academics, it might be a good idea to continue with that mindset. And I agree with those who ask why you can't do both? Marriage doesn't have to change your life direction. How about living together until you finish school? How about getting married and finish your PhD and then starting a family? You know what you have to do for a PhD. You don't know what you have to do for a successful marriage. If you go for both you just might get both. Try it.

What? Why do you have to choose?? That sounds awful! Are you already married? Does it have to do with moving? Find a compromise or even live apart temporarily while you go to school. You can do your Phd work while married, it's not like it's impossible to go to school and be married at the same time. My mother did her MA and then her Phd while married, working full time and taking care of her children. Any man who would make you choose between him and an education, is not a man worth marrying or staying married to!

Why?

Is the school going to shut down in X number of days and you won't be able to get married and have time to get it before the school closes?

Is your fiance on his death bed and will not live long enough for you to get your PhD?

I am aware that science is an exact field however human relationships and when you obtain a degree are not subject to scientific goals. The date of a wedding and the date of obtaining a degree can be moved forward, postponed or whatever is necessary without destroying the equation.

Not necessarily. You can have both, maybe not both at the same time. While you're still single and still in learning mode, go for your Phd. Once you've gotten it, then you can do the next step and get married.

If your relationship is strong, it should survive the delay in marriage. And you will be able to see if your partner is supportive of you, and how committed they are to the relationship.

PhD before a marriage. At least you'll never lose that certificate. A marriage might not always work out. I just obtained my Doctorate of Pharmacy.

Why on earth would you have to choose? If the person you may marry is making this demand you need to step back and take a good look at him. This is the type demand a control freak makes to start their career as an abuser.
Get your education...if he loves you, he will encourage and be happy for you.
