Having sex on alternate days is a very good way to get pregnant and doing so mid-cycle (day 14 to 20 starting with your first day of menses as day 1) greatly increases your chances. If you did it every day, your partner's sperm count won't be as good. A woman's fertile period last about 3-7 days and sperm can live for 24-48 hours so chances of you missing the ovulation period during this time is pretty low.

Having sex every other day can help if the man has a low sperm count because he has 48 hours instead of 24 to build up his supply of strong sperm. But you should know when you're ovulating because it's best to have sex the day you ovulate. So you would have sex two days before you ovulate and then day you ovulate. If you don't know when you ovulate you can try a home ovulation kit or natural family planning. If the man doesn't have a low sperm count I would have sex everyday around the time you ovulate. Good Luck !

First, this general saying has come from the fact that it is almost impossible to determine the day of ovulation. You might know just before of after it. And so, knowing that sperm can live in the female canal for 48 hours, ova for 12 hours, and the male need 48 hours to build up his number of sperm again. Taking all that, I say yes it is the best to have sex every other day. This way you will cover all the possibilities of ovulation and there will be sperm just right there in the tube to fertilize the ova once ruptured.

That does not make any sense. If you go by when you are ovulating and have sex for three days, she will be pregnant. The ovulation period last up to three days.

You keep a temperature chart to see when you ovulate.

The "alternative day" thing sounds like one of those stories you hear that have no basis.

I will give you the same advice that my doctor gave me. Don't worry about it. Relax and have sex when you want. Don't stress and don't let it become a chore.
