Explain the hypocrisy please. There is clearly so much racism masked as comedy that comes from Coulter's mouth, and she isn't muzzled? Please don't tell me it's because she doesn't have a radio show. She is invited onto every major news network, invited to speak at colleges around the country, she is a very public and influential figure who has said some very offensive things, things that go way beyond what Imus said..
I just don't understand why we are supposed to accept some bigots, racists, homophobes, extremists (Mike Savage? Rush Limbaugh? Sean Hannity? Rosie o' Donnell? please!) but not others. This is a loaded question, but I don't care I feel like an injustice has been done. Take Imus away, but take these other loons out too.

yes while on that note, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson's 'hymietown' remark should have gotten them the public boot in no time. But like one poster said, it looks like Imus took one for the team, and lost out.
It's not only the sponsors though I'm talking about. It's the public fury! That was so bizarre and domino like the way it was latched onto. I didn't even know what he meant when he said it I only found out later that word is considered 'un-PC'. its unfortunate that he was an intelligent guy, one of the only who would spend much of his time speaking freely his mind about EVERYTHING which is such a rarity anyway

Couter really don't work for big corporation. I don't think. Her columns are published in gazillion newspapers. And I think she might still practice law independently, but I'm not sure. Limbaugh will be fired to if his sponsors pull out. But he's really niche radio personality. He'll always have that group of people who really like him no matter what. I actually remember Rosie in few instances making racist, Asian impression doing that 'ching chong chong chang!' thing. I'm disappointed that didn't grab that much attention. Rosie is big fat racist too.
But it all depends how the public reacts and how sponsors respond. Another thing I don't like is that racism against blacks seems to be considered higher priority than racism against Asians or other races(Muslims especially).
People do get fed up with all their craps and every once in while someone will take the hit for everybody who make racist, homophobic remarks. Imus took the hit for everybody.

Imus' show went off the air because his sponsors pulled out. Limbaugh's sponsors haven't pulled out because they purposefully are sponsoring a right-wing talk shoe, attracting a listener seeking that kind of talk. when Limbaugh was on CBS sprots, he did lose his job after making racially-sensitive remarks about Randall Cunningham. Coulter is similar -- she doesn't have sponsors per se, and thus is relatively immune to pressure from sponsors.
If Imus wanted to go on satellite radio, or on the talk show circuit, he'd make a bunch and still have an audience too -- without anyone stopping him. And he probably will.
Is there a whole lot of hypocrisy involved? You betcha. But the examples you gave play out the way they do because of the particular market forces at work for each person. Imus was doing general talk on a general show.

Frankly I like Rosie O'Donnell, she's not half as bad as some of the others you mention.
Well I suspect they're still making big bucks for their radio companies or TV stations or syndicators and that's why they're still there. No it's not right but money does indeed make the world go round, I'd include Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in that group as well as both have said some fairly rankist things about white people and Jewish people in the past.

No. Rush Limbaugh NEVER entertains the opinions or comments of liberals whereas, even though Maher's show is onviously slanted to the left, Maher always includes conservatives in his guest panels. Limbaugh scorns anyone who disagrees with him and NEVER takes calls from libs.

Because Imus was a "wheel" that squeaked JUST alittle too loudly above the noise of hypocracy... -a fate that's in store for everyone that has an "Opinion" that goes against the grain, sooner- or later... :)

Ann is far from being a bigot. Ann speaks her mind about all people and her assessment is normally on the money. I feel that you should leave a message on Ann's website apologizing for your remarks towards her.

When it comes to politics, you can say almost anything you want and get away with it. But dare breathe one word....a syllable.....about racism, and you're gone faster than a cattle running from a prod.
That's just the way things are. It stinks, but it's reality.

limbaugh should have been fired for or at least fined by the fcc for broadcasting radio under the influence of illegal narcotics. he is a bigot but he has stopped short of any racial slurs. the same with ann coultier. but only time will tell before of them slips.

Because he wasn't fired because of a "law". He was fired because his sponsors/employers used their rights to decide that they didn't want to be associated with him anymore.
