Post traumatic stress (disorder) is a mental health issue that one may experience following a severe event in their life -- war, attempted murder, rape, violence, etc. PTSD has a set of symptoms that are fairly common which can include nightmares or "flashbacks" to the original trauma.

Cummulative stress means the stress can "add up". When people don't have good ways of dealing with stress, problems can build up and you could feel overwhelmed.

Cumulative stress- Individual stresses that aggregate over time to create a larger stress. Example: you spill your coffee, you get a flat tire, you get a speeding ticket and then this all adds up to a stroke.

Post Traumatic Stress- Stress based upon the memories or physical trauma related to an unusually tragic or unbearable occurrence. Example: A Vietnam vet will recall the horrors of war and have a heightened stress level. A car crash victim will recall a car crash to the point of heightened stress.
