Death is not an instaneous process. Death occurs over time. While the brain or heart may stop, other systems and other cells will take longer to die. Eventually, we will start to decay unless we have been preserved in some way. Once you have died, that will be the end of the line.

Many people have difficulty with this reality and construct notions to help them cope with the fear of dying and death.

there are so many theories, but the simple fact of the matter is that nobody knows. none who experience true death are here to tell us (near death experiences are still on this side of the river), so all anyone has is theories. often it's a matter of choosing the theory we are most comfortable with so we can move on.
my belief is that we will just cease to exist, just as before we came into existence.

your belief is your choice.

It's a matter of opinion. No one has ever died and come back to life to explain to us what it's like "life after death". Religion's(IMHO) go by beliefs and no one really knows (from experience) about the afterlife...

No idea. A person who has died has not come back from the dead to tell us what happened !

this is such a ridiculously broad topic. it involves answering questions like is there a god, is god benevolent, is there a separation of mind and body, if there is a separation of mind and body does the mind survive when the body does not? my subjective belief on this is that there is no separation of mind and body and therefore no facet of myself to survive my physical death. life, then nothing.

...It can't be ALL bad; everyone's whose ever BEEN has done it. And so will the REST of us- from here on out. So I guess we all should just live our lives, wait & see- and find out. It's a "plan" that can't miss. :)
