I've been reading stories about the disappearance of whole bee colonies in 24 states and Europe. Seems there's a massive extinction going on very rapidly and no one knows what's causing it.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070223-bees.html here is a link

I wonder how long civilization would survive if the Bee really did go extinct all of a sudden. Bee's are responsibIe for almost all the worlds food supplies. I know other insects also pollinate, but Bees do more than all the other insects combined.

Please don't give the Einstein quote, it's not a real quote.

Bees pollinate plants so we are going to be in huge trouble if bees disappear.

It's odd thing, but since bees can multiply fairly quickly I think they'll be able to either gain resistence to infectious agent or eventually recover its populations. I'm saying that only because they mentioned similar occurence in 1890s. But is still isn't considered 'extinction.' Like the article says it is called Colony Collapse Disorder. They didn't find millions of dead bees, but they just couldn't find colonies. Like they just picked things up and moved away some where. Or scattered without colonies. It is mystery, but not disturbing as true extinction or massive bee deaths.

If we proceed on the way we are going and stay in the international, I provide humanity yet another hundred years, 2 on the main formerly we attempt to blow ourselves to bits. we would desire to remedy the themes that countries and ethnic communities have with one yet another yet maximum critically, we would desire to establish permenant colonies on the Moon and Mars as a manner to going extra desirable-photograph voltaic. Now that we expect of we've stumbled on information of working water on Mars and understanding that there is H20 interior the Martian ice caps, we can't would desire to take plenty with us which will shrink down on distinctive the load. The water will help us set up hydroponic centres which ability we could have the skill to enhance nutrition and start to create our own oxygen recycling equipment. If we are able to get all this all started then in 1000 years, we would have been able to terraform the Martian panorama and our descendants would have tailored to our surroundings so keenly that they won't want EVA suits. We already know of scores of Jupiter-sized planets, we are able to set generational ships off in the direction of those planets below the concept that there is smaller planets not a procedures away. whether they are not there, by utilising the time the deliver reaches the co-ordinates, the group's descendants would already view the automobile as their homestead. lots of those ships would desire to grow to be arks, harbouring the very essance of humanity and ensuring that our values - alongside with they are - proceed to exist.

well, 1/3 of the world population will prob die in 2-3 years.

by that time, some other way to produce food will be implimented...however
it will only be available to the rich, well connected or important. Also, minimal food will be given to strong workers "slaves"

so about another 1/3 that don't make the cut will die.

of the ones that are left..half of them will die in food wars.

so if 1/6th of humanity being left with a few all powerful brute dictators ruling over slave food workers is survival, than I guess yes.

NeoCons wanted to drastically reduce world population...guess they found a way.

...That depends ENTIRELY- on what happens NEXT. If WE are somehow responsible for the bee's sudden collapse- then it could be the next "domino" to fall- on the food chain that leads to US. And the "ticking" noise those dominos make as they fall- represent the remaining time LEFT that we have to find out what's wrong- before it's too late... :(

It will put a major hole in fruit and veg production.
I am wondering if geneticly modified plants are responsible - trying to ward off pests.
