I do it all the time from my work email. You just need to get an email from the phone and then you'll have the phone email address. For verizon its the area code-phone [e-mail] example: [e-mail] and thats what you put in the to part of the email, keep it short though cause cell phones only have so much room.
You can email from a phone, you know when you enter a contact enter there email address instead of there phone number and you can send the email and this where you find out the cell phone email address.

From messenger or email you use the phone number. My friends from all over the world text me. When I on my Boat this how we stay in touch, but, only when my cell get a signal. I am looking at a Satellite phone and it have Internet too. ;-)

Depends on the carrier....
Um, go to the carriers website...Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, Alltel, Virgin etc...usually they have a place where you can send a message.

you can do it from yahoo messenger, i do it all the time...

if you have messenger go to the top where it says 'Actions' and then go down to where it says 'send an SMS message' and then you'll type in their mobile number and send them a text message...and its free!!
