Hear on the north side of Detroit there is a great group called “Coming out over coffee”. We get together each Tuesday night. It’s an open group for ALL LGBT persons and spouses. It’s part of our LGBT social center Affirmations. After that we all go out together for 1/3lb. Bar burgers and karaoke at the local OPEN [Str8 and LGBT] pub.
I think the fact that these clubs, groups, and pubs are open to all… as opposed to focussed on just one group that has segregated itself from the rest of the world… make my Tuesday nights the most important, and emotionally fulfilling to me.
Also it’s all a lot of fun

I run the gamut, volunteer for and am an active member of many organizations: HRC, lobbying legislature for a statewide GLBT equality group, gay community center, Young Democrats, planning committee for Pride, AIDS foundation, homeless shelter for GLBT youth, political delegate, GLBT business guild, GLBT alumni association, community theatre. I go dancing, I cater and host dinner parties. These activites are a catalyst for my social life; they intermix and I like it that way.
I don't singularly choose activities based on sexuality, however, GLBT activities do get priority. I always have something of interest and importance to keep involved with. It is my opinion and experience, there is a great need to be heard and active in all of our communities.
