Dear mek,

i absolutely concur with your statement!

Smush Parker is the worst defender in the NBA not because he lacks the physical attributes- he has demonstrated that he has fast hands.

But here are three things he lacks:

1) Baksetball IQ: Smush is completely undisciplined. You noticed in games where the opposing point guard torched the Lakers in the 4th quarter that he is often leaving his man wide open for a jumper or a layup because he overplays the passing zone and instead of playing disciplined man-to-man get a hand in the defender's face defense he takes chances. It's ok to take a chance on a steal every now and again but when the score is 100-99 you need to get the defense stop and he has no idea when to take chances and when not to.

2) Bad footwork: i noticed that Smush is often left flat-footed. i can't tell if it's just effort (see point #3) or if he just has bad mechanics. All i know is that he's often facing the wrong direction or so far off from his man (and the Lakers aren't playing zone at that time- so why the heck are you sagging off so much?)

3) THIS IS THE REASON WHY HE'S THE WORST: NO Heart! As a Laker fan i hate Smush because he doesn't care when someone scores on him. It shows in how half-heartedly he goes through the pick and roll and how often his man is wideopen. Yes Farmar has gotten torched, but Farmar gets upset, and Farmar gets a hand in people's faces... and Farmar is only a Rookie. Smush sucks and should be released. Any average fan should not be able to score on a NBA player, but i swear i could score on him. i saw him get back-doored so badly against the Cavs. i went to the game with my brother and he asked me why do you hate smush so much- and i say just watch him for 5 straight minutes, and my brother (who isn't a basketball fan) says he looks like he's not trying... that's the problem... if you lack the physical skills but have heart -- you may still suck... But Smush sucks, and you add that with an attitude that sucks- and you basically suck more than anybody else!

Smush should be released at the end of the year and should not be on an NBA roster.

Go Lakers, but Smush- Go Away!

I'm not quick to say someone is the worst at something, but I'm gonna have to agree. He's horrible defensively. He can't defend point guards in a forward-heavy conference. He'd get killed if he was in the East with guys like Gordon, Billups, Wade, Kidd, etc. I think even Jameer Nelson would give him a run for his $$$. Phil Jackson has never had a great point guard, but they could play above average defense. On a good night Smush Parker is mediocre defensively.

I always thought he was pretty decent...until Sunday's game. Jordan Farmar looked great! He had a good low defensive stance and defenders had to actually try, or work to get around him. With Smush they blew by him like he was standing still. He loafed around the court and just looked like he didn't want to be there.

It's not exactly easy to stop him, but EVERYONE knows what Leandro Barbosa is going to do. He'll hit the open 3 or get a full head of steam going to the basket for a layup. He's not going to take shots off the dribble or really create much. Just play the drive! When Farmar got into foul trouble and Smush came in the flood gates open! Barbosa went nuts and we know the rest.

It must be Kwame Brown. This adult adult males sucks like a $10 hooker. He cant capture the ball,he doesnt understand a thank you to play protection, he doesnt understand a thank you to play offense. he's a waste of cap area. And the lakers traded an all celebrity Caron Butler and a good Chucky Atkins for this clown.

His only defense is his quick hands trying to get steals. His footwork is slow and guards will blow past him everytime.

Also he can't seem to go around picks. He runs right into picks every time and gets stuck, while the guy he was defending hits an easy layup.

He's an athlete, with bad judgement.

Not me. It's not like he's a 7"2 Center or a 6"6 guard...hes the friggen point guard. All he cares about is taking care of the ball, passing it, and shooting it, all on OFFENSE. I don't think the lakers were thinking about defense when they drafted him...

Kobe Bryant thinks it.

But Kobe also is on borrowed time after he bought his way out of a Colorado prison sentence.

I don't think he can keep up with guards in the West. Maybe he doesn't have good defensive mechanics.
