divide the 4 so you get 8^x= 2.87 and then take the log of both sides. You'll get then x*log(8)=log(2.87) and then divide log(8)

4*8^x = 11.48
8^x = 11.48/4 = 2.87
log 8^x = log 2.87
x log 8 = log 2.87
x = (log 2.87)/log 8
x = approximately 0.507
