They are marsupials, closely related to opposums and other animals with pouches (kangaroos, wallabys, koala bears). They look more like a flying squirrel though, so many people actually mistake them for rodents. They are high maintenance pets, but are illegal to keep in alot of areas.

They're these funny little mammals that sound like lawnmower engines.

Seriously, though, you don't have to ask simple questions like this here- just look it up in a dictionary (gasp? a book?!!) or try a search engine.
