If so, why did you decide to do it? I would also like to know some basic reasons why people chose to elope instead of a traditional marriage. I am just looking for opinions.

My hubby and I did, no regrets by doing so either. Saved us some money .. plus we meant thru Yahoo, me from the USA and he being from Canada, I came to Canada and 11 days later we were married, me being in my 50s and my hubby in his late 40's, folks just didnt see things our way... so we got our folks for witnesses and got married the 11 day and have never been happier.... getting ready to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary....

Congrats to you on what ever you decide, wish you many many years of happiness, just do what the 2 of you really want as to have no regrets...

I did over 12 years ago in Monterey, Ca. We did it because planning the wedding became my mom's dream wedding. Also, we were able to buy a house and if we had had the big traditional marriage we probably wouldn't have. I have 2 sisters-in-laws that are on their second marriages and they had the big to do's so for us eloping was the best thing. Plus, we're still married.

My parent's eloped. The reason was because they couldn't get married at my mother's church. The pastor thought my dad was robbing the cradle. Of course the guy wouldn't hear the fact that my mom's older than my dad. So, they eloped so they could actually get married. At a later time, my mom converted to Catholicism so they could get married in a chuch. The anniversary they celebrate is their first, when they eloped.

I didn't for either marriage, but I tell you if there is a next time we will. Its cheaper, faster, and a lot less headache to elope.

I did.

I was married in Central Park, New York City.

It was a 2nd marriage for both of us. We didn't want another wedding.
