Good question. I will try to answer it the best that I can and I might have to do a lot more research to give you a better answer, but if you would like I will do so. However, this is what I can think of off the top of my mind. First, No, I do not deny that the Bible is from God, nor do I deny the that Jesus is part of the trinity. however, one of the things that I have learned is that context is king. In this context, the slaves of the Israelites in the Old Testament would have been the Cannanites, or the people from the surrounding nations who didn't belive in God and who actually served idols. Of these people groups God had commanded the Israelites to conquer, not to take slaves but to kill. Yes, this is something that is hard to deal with, but, the essence of it is that the Israelites, fresh from being enslaved themselves by the Egyptians needed to be pure from any idolitrous nations. no pluralism was to be tolerated. This was so that, in the long course of human history, God's people, the Israelites, could produce the savior of all people. This savior, Jesus Christ, fulfilled all of the Old Testament law, so that we, all of those who have come after Him and believe in him, might be freed from the law. In the New Testament, we're taught that we are "one in Christ", that we all hold equal ground in front of him. I hope that this answers your question, and if not, I'm certianly willing to do more research to give you a better answer.

Jesus is definitely the God the Old Testament. Is that a nice command? No, it is not. However,is that a command Jesus was happy giving? No, it is not. God can only move people, be it as individuals or as a society, as quickly as they will move. Actually, He pushes them quite hard anyway. It is not by choice that God still allowed slavery at that time. The ancient Hebrews were very barbaric and God can only move so quickly with people who have free will. There are many examples of this in the Old Testament, which is why people often see the God of the Old Testament as a God of wrath and the God of the New Testament as a God of love. However, even in the Old Testament, God shows incredible love. That was always there. It took me years to see this but it is there in ample measure, from Genesis into Leviticus and Numbers and beyond. In fact, Leviticus is becoming one of my favourite books in the Bible and I am gay (many people use Leviticus to condemn gay people).
By the way, the word of God is contained in the Bible but not all parts of the Bible are the word of God. Do not listen to the fundamentalists or to other religious people. They will always get it wrong. They do not know God from a bar of soap. Jesus Christ warned against them and continues to warn against them.

That isn't part of the Ten Commandments which is written by the finger of God. The rest of the laws are actually cultural laws and ceremonial laws. It doesn't apply to us because it applied to that region and culture. What does apply to us now is thou shall not kill, thou shall not bear false witnesses, etc.
It is interesting to note that the world uses the Ten Commandments as the basis of its laws. Perhaps there's something to this God making up the laws thing after all.

The bible is just another good fiction story, but I guess I am the only one who sees the subliminal messages in that it is only there for mass mind control.
