What is more important when selecting a video card? Core Speed or VRAM (amount and speed)?

I am about to purchase an Nvidea 7600 line video card. I can Either get a 7600 GS with 512 MB DDR2 VRAM and a 400 Mhz Core clock or a 7600GT with 256 MB DDR2 VRAM and 560 Mhz Core clock. I know when dealing with RAM, more is always better, but what boosts performance more? VRAM or Core Speed?

Core clock is important but VRAM is the great equalizer. DDR3 VRAM is very fast, do not settle for anything less. 512Mb ddr2 VRAM looks nice to have but 256Mb ddr3 will beat it ALL THE TIME.

I'll explain this a little better. Video memory is used for colors, resolution and textures of the games. Typically most games on the market can easily run 1600 by 1200 and not use 256mb of video ram. A good source for that prove is here:

The 7600 GT is the faster card. For a little more, you can get the Radeon x1950 Pro that is much faster (as the above chart shows):

If you run at 1600 by 1200 or higher, you might want the extra 512mb of ram.

The VRAM is more important since you can overclock the core speed if your PC has the proper cooling and you are brave enough and know how.
