If your school has a voag or metal shop, i would ask them for some scraps from a mill or slag from torch or plazma cutting. It's pretty easy to get all the rust you need from those (although you may have to help it along while rusting)

Rust is Iron Oxide. I doubt you could get it for free if you want pure iron(iii) oxide.

If this is a school experiment, they should supply it.

If you just want rusted metal, you could try a dumpster or something.

If you want something good, try sigma-aldrich, but it's pretty costly.

A junkyard or a recycling plant might have some. But things like silver oxide and other precious metal oxides may be harder to come by.

Beach sand has lots of iron oxide. Just take a magnet and a ziploc and have at it.

Chemical supply company or local welder.

Playing with thermite, eh? Just remember to put something earthy under it.
