Ok I made a mistake the 2 that I had in there before was supposed to be to the power of 2.

M ultiplicaton
D ivision (These can be done in either order.)

A ddition
S ubtraction (These also can be done in either order.)

12 - 4(3 - 5)^2 ÷ (-1)
= 12 - 4(-2)^2 ÷ (-1)
= 12 + 4(-2)^2
= 12 + 4(4)
= 12 + 16
= 28

PEMDAS

3-5 = -2

-2 to the power of two is 4

-4 x 4 is -16

-16 divided by -1 = 16

12+16 = 28

First of all, you have a left parenthesis without a matching right one, so the expression isn't legal.

Where are you getting stuck? Do the operations in precedence order like your book shows, and you'll get the right answer.
Stuff in parentheses comes first.
Exponentiation (powers).
Multiplication and division, left to right.
Addition and subtraction, left to right.
