Apply a poultice, it helps. Apply capsicum or belladona plaster.
It absorbs the swelling.
Take Arnica 200 + Rhus tox 200 - 4 pills every hour till the pain reduces. Continue the same as 4 pills 4 times a day for 4 days.
Apply a mixture of garlic paste + camphor (equal portions) 3-4 times a day. It will burn a bit but also reduce the swelling and pain.
Keep moving the ankle, or else it will lead to stiffness.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. pot makes it feel better. You never can tell how herbal remedys will effect different people. I can only advise on a natural pain killer that works.The epson salt soaks will help the swelling.

Ice works wonders as does asprin. Asprin is natural.
You need something to take the swelling down. Asprin will do that. but keeping it iced will help too.
