There are so many things to do on the Las Vegas strip most people never venture off of it. We have the Hoover Dam to visit which is about 45 minutes away. It is where many films have been shot. Pretty soon you will not be able to drive across the dam, because they are building a bridge to bypass the dam. So that is a bit out of the ordinary to go see. Another great thing to do is to go out to Red Rock and take a look around. Red Rock is a beautiful rock formation, located to the West of Las Vegas, I have seen wild mustangs, burros, and other wildlife. Make sure to bring water if you are going out there and sunscreen! If you want to do something different on the Las Vegas strip, take the helicopter tour at night. They will fly you up and down the strip for about 80$ and it is absolutely amazing. Also, a first if you haven't ridden in a helicopter before!

There are lots of things that are out of the ordinary in Las Vegas. The last time I was in town I spent a whole day doing things that I had never done before, since most of the time I just go to the Strip or Downtown to gamble and eat. In one afternoon, here are the things I did: Went to Circus Circus and their indoor amusement park; they have a roller coaster in there that is as good as most outdoor roller coasters. Went to Hilton to the Star Trek experience; they have two rides which are fairly expensive but certainly a new twist on the typical interactive ride. Went to the Stratosphere; they have a great view of Las Vegas. Having a fear of heights I could not get up the nerve to do any of the rides which were over one hundred stories above the Strip. Two of the rides have you suspended over the edge of the building, certainly nothing you will find anywhere else. Later that night I saw Carrot Top at the Luxor. I wasn't expecting much and was really surprised at how funny he can be when he is playing to an adult audience. I am sure there are a hundred other things in Las Vegas that could be considered unique; make a list of them and set out on the town to do them all in one day, you will never have another day like it.

The coolest thing I've done in vegas was celebrate New Year's Eve on the street! However, if you are talking May, June maybe; Visit the Coca Cola Museum and sample all sorts of drinks popular in other nations that aren't sold in the USA. A few doors down from that is the M&M's candy "store" and museum, they have all varieties of colors so you can make a mixed bag of your favorite colors or a bag of all one color if you choose to pay the price. There is a virtual ride inside the Luxor. Walk around the Luxor and look at all the detail they put into making it look authentically Egypt. There are roller coasters inside the Circus Circus building, and outside New York, New York....it's a wooden replica coaster like Coney Island. You can hang out at the MGM and watch the MGM Lions at feeding time. Or go to the Mirage and see if the White Tigers are still there. There is a monorail train (elevated train) that runs between the Luxor and two or three different hotels. You used to be able to get on and ride without being a guest at any hotel and the view of the hotels at that height is good for photos if you are interested in that sort of thing. The Rio has concerts "on the beach" ( their own private pool area is a beach) see who's scheduled to play there. Try Gambling in the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel surrounded by all that memorabilia it is sure to bring you some luck! There is a tower in one of the hotels and at the highest point there is a restaurant and a platform for bungee jumping. There is always something to see in every hotel. The Medieval Castle...sorry not it's name, just what it looks like has jesters and a carnival fair in it's basement and there is a theater where jousting& sword tournaments are sometimes the show for the day. Years ago I saw the famed Lippizaner Stallions (Austrian dancing white horses) in an exhibition show there. Outside town in Jean, there is one of the get-away cars thieves Bonnie and Clyde used. Maybe you'd like to see a game at UNLV?
Leave town and see the Hoover Dam. you can do like in the movies (Fools Rush in, etc.) and stand halfway in Nevada and halfway in Arizona. Whatever you do, have fun!!
