No, I watch horror all the time and it has no effect on me as far as violence goes, and I'll whoop anyone who says otherwise. ARE YOU THREATENING ME????

I know that I love to watch horror movies. I know that when I am home alone and hear a noise I think someone is in my house or something, and I have crazy dreams that can be violent at time. But I don't think these are thoughts that have to do just with the types of shows and movies I watch. I think most of the things that happen in the movies are not that far off from what you would hear about in the news. I have seen a lot of horror movies but it would never cause me to go crazy and act one out. I think violent thoughts come more from personal experiences with abuse.

I have been encouragd by the horror movies.
I have always been an animal lover and I appreciate the fact that no animals were injured during the original filming of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" nor during its recent remake.
Everybody needs to have a fair opportunity. Therefore I do support the producers of "Alien Rambo Vampire Brothel " for hiring off-season migrant workers as extras.
I am also an avid environmentalist and I applaud the director of "Gothic Monsters Cannibalizing Cheerleaders" for using fake blood which was biodegradable. In addition - the towels used to clean up after the squishy scenes were washable cotton, not paper thereby saving our precious trees.

No. Horror movies are designed to help people overcome fear of the unknown (and very exaggerated at that). An unhealthy minded person could find just as much intrigue in a horror as they would from a romance or documentary. It's not the movie. There are so many facets of life, good and bad and horror is just a visual explanation of what humans are capable of doing. Our conscience is what dictated right and wrong, the horrors are to remind us of the sick people we need to find ways to help.

I think the fact that the enjoy gratuitous violence often says a lot about them.
But I don't think it's a die hard rule, either.
edit, something I thought to add: i think the other thing about horror movies is that they make you paranoid. Same thing with seeking out every sensationalistic news story you can-- it's not good for you, you see violence as an everyday occurance when it isn't. (at least not in any given persons life.) Living your life in fear is not healthy and I do think that it will sometimes lead to violent reactions if you're always expecting someone to attack you with a chainsaw. Some people don't contract this attitude, but I think others are succeptable to it.

I know I do...
creeps the heck out of me.
I watch to many bloody movies... up the gore factor. Not to mention the screaming.. the sounds, it's all disturbing thus bring up disturbing thoughts. It's sad though cuz these movies give people ideas and they bring back bad memories.

No, my wife loves horror films and cringes at the thought of anyone enduring pain. Scared of a rabbit and the sight of a needle.

probably no direct correlation can be made, but wouldn't be surprised if it acts as a catalyst - provide more tangible references, etc
