A few days ago ... sometimes on a piece of clothing, sometimes if they are working and provide really good service.
We absolutely should do this more often ... people are too busy being preoccupied with themselves, and/or looking at the negative side of things to take time out to compliment anyone - especially if there is nothing in it for them!

I'm from the Southern US. We do it all the time, we talk to strangers in stores and such. Say at least hello and make eye contact. We are friendly here for the most part.

.....We should be as kind and empathetic and generous with strangers as we possibly can. Why? Because we'd love it if they were that way to us.
My favorite thing to do is to walk up to a person in uniform and
say to them, "Thank you for your service."
But realistically...how can you compliment a stranger in anything but a superficial way if you don't know anything about them? Maybe you should at least make their acquaintance first.

finally an easy one i was at a gas station yesterday walking to the car and an elderly lady was getting out of her car on my left. it was a windy day and her church program blew out of her car right by me. i picked it up and told her she had a pretty hat. she also had a beautiful smile when she thanked me and made me feel really good for something that should be just something we do anyway
