Anyway..it's low no matter which it is.My state raised the minimum wage itself.Less than half the states have raised it.Is there anyone out there that believes the minimum wage is enough for a family to live on?Don't you think this is a big issue for our presidential candidates to work on?

$5.15 I think - but the bill in congress would raise it to $7.25. That's barely at the poverty level, and the dems have made many concessions to get the cons to go along with it. Bush may well sign it - we'll see.

FEDERAL minimum wage is 5.15. Hmm...living wage could be applied here..meaning, the wage would include house rent, transportation, clothing, food, health and dental insurance. Minimum wage is the lowest legal amount payable to employees from employers that would only contain the basic, basic, basic needs to live off of, i.e. food and shelter. Living wages, I believe differ from state to state, and what is a liveable wage for each person or family. The current minimum wage is not enough to support a family of two or more members. Then again, the minimum wage and the income for a family depends from state to state. America has shown a trend in increasing the minimum wage ever since it was established. The establishment of a minimum wage, when it began was around twenty something cents, and where I am it is currently 7.75. Next year Jan. 2008, the minimum wage will be 8 dollars. Even if there is a significant increase in minimum wage, everything else will increase also; creating an inflation. I do not think that the minimum wage should necessarily be the presidential candidates primary goal to solving our problems...there are other things going on...I think the minimum wage could be set on the back burner until the other more important problems have been solved. I.e., war in Iraq, immigration, etc etc...

Sorry was so lengthy. I just did a debate on this. Hopefully it helps, but there is more to this.

The Federal minimum wage is $5.15/ hour currently. Many states have higher minimum wages. There is currently a bill in Congress that would raise it to over $7.00/hour over the next two years. That bill has not yet passed.

The minimum wage was never intended to be a wage that a "family" can live on. Everyone must start somewhere.

This is definitely not a big issue in the Presidential campaign (except for Libs pandering to the uninformed bleeding hearts who have not a clue about economics or the inflationary effect of wage increases without corresponding increases in productivity).

Got to love those misguided and uninformed Libs.

Families do not live on minimum wage, that is a fallacy.
