If you discard all the commercial crap & actually look at the underground, you'll see that its not all about partying, drugs & violence. Try listening to rappers such as mos def, talib, common, immortal techqiue, atmosphere & SO MANY others.

I'm a Common fan myself. I've found, though, that I don't dig "rap" anymore, more so as hip-hop in the old sense of the word.

I love Common, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli. I think it is because they are more known and played on mainstream radio. I agree that there is some really good rap music that isn't just about b****** and hoes and how much money they have and the cars that they drive. But unfortunately that is what seems to sell and be promoted. I understand what you are saying.

some is, and maximum isn't. there is a few very clever rap obtainable, lots of it in the underground and a few of it in the mainstream too. regrettably, a number of those artists who get the main exposure are people who base their music around intercourse, drugs, and violence, and the media's tendency to offer those artists extra insurance would not help out rap's reason. the main suitable thank you to instruct every person incorrect some sterotype like this is to introduce them to the artists with clever lyrics and state-of-the-paintings beats (i.e. Ghostface Killah, Murs, Soul place, The Roots, MF Doom, etc.) they're going to immediately comprehend they are wrong.

How is that a question? Try Cannibal Ox, KRS-One, Antipop Consortium, Erik B & Rakim, Aesop Rock, Brotha Lynch Hung. Keep going man, you've just scratched the surface. Ice Cube is always a good call.

This isn't a question, and it IS a lame defense of a debauched music style. Sorry, no takers.

No, wait...you're right. Every 6 or 7 albums a rapper actually does do "a" positive song.
