OLP is a moderate quality guitar. There really is nothing too special about it, nor is there anything horrible. Just an OK, solid instrument for banging around the garage or the basement.

I know a few things about guitars, having played and taught guitar for 50 years, but I'm unaquainted with an OLP guitar.

Bear in mind, off-brand guitars can be quality instruments; they don't have to have top-brand names to make them feel good and play soundly.

Consider taking your guitar to your local reputable music store and ask a guitar technician to look it over for manufacturing quality and ease of playing. Ask other guitarists that are browsing there and testing instruments too.

As for Ernie Ball--yes, that corporation makes quality strings for electrics and acoustics.

who cares? you would be a lot better if you spent more time playing the thing.
