It's been done before.
I lived two weeks without electricity during Hurricane Katrina, so a week is like nothing!

Oh shoot heck fire, have survived with out electricity for all summer long and for a few weeks at a time during the winter, but I grew up that way, Looking forward to camping by the river all summer here in Canada, and no we dont have an RV or anything like that, old fashion camping, shoot I'm in my 50's and my loving hubby is 49, we look forward to it, Of course we dont have cable tv, no cell phones, and an old dinosaur for a comp... lol no dvd's or player... no microwave, I even make our own candles .... so we would get by very nicely until the end of time...

Actually, about 3 summers ago, we had a massive wind storm swept through the city. Power was out everywhere. I was without it for 10 days, my girlfriend for 13. We barley even ate, because the food went bad in the fridge, had no canned food. After a few days some resteraunts and groecery stores got their power back. But I couldn't buy anything because all the credit card and atm machines were down.

Not to mention no air conditioning during the hottest week of the year. Upwards of 100 everyday.heat index well over that.

I couldn't live without electricity. The longest that I've ever been without electricity is about a week, when a hurricane took out power lines in my city about 8 years ago. I don't wan't to go through that again. You can't even cook your food without electricity, unless you use a grill. I couldn't stand to miss one week of my t.v. shows, but you can try to live without electricity for a week, but I think you'll give in after a day or two.

I think from a survival standpoint I would last for a while I mean there wasn't always electricity and people thrived then. But I rely on it way too much these days to go without it for a while.

Once I stayed at a beach resort on Koh Chang, a beautiful island in the Gulf of Thailand. At the time there was no electricity, except for the batteries in my ghetto blaster. I think the longest I stayed there was three months. There was no need for electricity.

We did it for 6 days after the big wind storm in December..{West coast of Vancouver Island} .We are on a well so we also had no running water and had to go down to the resevoir in the basement and "dip" for it...Thank goodness we had the water down there!....After a few days you don't bother trying the lightswitch every time you walk into a room!...Its not fun.

I've been camping in the mountains of Montana & Wyoming, Usually 4 a month at a time, I got by quite well. Wouldn't bother me for the rest of my life. Good luck in the city, Too many ordinances with fire for hot water and cooking.
