nobody actually HAS to do anything, there are just consequences for doing, or not doing certain things.

It is true, here is the catch.
The IRS doesn't care. They will send their agents to 'arrest' you, they will prosecute you and you can bet the house that they will arrange for the trial to be held in a courtroom with a judge that supports them.
There have been a few shining moments where the jury ignored the judges assersion that taxes are legal and sided with the defendant. But that is rare.
Here is the up shot on this.
Income tax is illegal, the constitution is clear on this.
The US government does not care, and will put you in prison if you don't pay them.
sorry, it sucks.
I hope that people start to "get it"
the government ONLY follows the constitution when it suits them.
Case in point: When a reporter asked Bush if the Partiot Act was constitutional, the president responded that it was only a damn sheet of paper.

I have heard that theory, and I have seen what happens when somebody runs his business according to that theory.
There was a doctor in Washington who would not pay taxes. The DEA enforcers came into his waiting room, with guns drawn, in front of his patients. They confiscated his computer (with all patient data on it) and a lot of other stuff. The doctor then let his patients know that he would still be in the office, but he didn't have the patient appointments or records, so he he might not know exactly what he was doing. He was a very good and capable doctor, so most of his patients still went to him.....
The stress caused the doctor to lose a lot of weight.

yes, it says it's "voluntary" to pay........page 3 of the 1992 forms and 1040 instruction book paragraph 2, sentence 1: "you are among the millions of Americans who comply with the tax law voluntarily"........ (but if you don't "volunteer" to pay, off to jail you go)
Did you also know the Federal Reserve Bank is not government owned? It's privately owned, and is no more part of the Federal Government than Federal Express! {75 congressional record 12595-12603}
