There is no 'real' Wicked Witch of The West. The Wicked Witch is just a made up character in the movie. Margarette Hamilton (spelled wrong) was the 'actress' who played the Wicked Witch. If there IS a real Wicked Witch Of The West, then I'm sure it must be Rosie O'Donnell... ;-) LOL!

Breta Bloomberg.
No, but seriously, the wicked witch of the west doesn't really exists, so she doesn't really have a name. But I don't think she has a name in The Wizard of Oz books. If you read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, her name is Elphaba, which the author thought up.
But you have to read the books to find out what I'm talking about. Don't watch the movie or see the musicals.

In the 1939 movie, Margaret Hamilton played the Wicked Witch of the West. In the 2003 Broadway musical, she was played by Idina Menzel. Currently, she is being played by Julia Murney.

The musical "Wicked" is based on Gregory Maguire's book "Wicked" which is, of course, the life story of the witch, and he named her Elphaba Thropp.
In the original books, she was just The Wicked Witch of the West.
For what it's worth.

Elphaba Thropp is her full name in the novel, Thropp signifying her lineage as the Thropp third descending, in line to inherit the title of Eminent Thropp. in the musical, though, they only introduce her as Elphaba. in the novel as well, she was named for a saint, called Saint Aelphaba, who was rumored to have walked through a waterfall (which is funny, because of Elphaba's allergic melty thing to water) anyway there's a whole story about her in Wicked: the life and times of the wicked witch of the west by Gregory Maguire. read the book. i hilighy reccomend it. Elphaba is pronounced with a stress on the first syllable; EL-pha-ba nickname in the book and musical- Elphie. cute. nichname in the novel only- Fabala. and as someone said earlier, the inspiration for her name was derived from the initials of the author of the wizard of oz stories, L. Frank Baum, L Fa Ba :)
