Gatsby once owned the car and it was used to hit and kill Myrtle, this outraged George and he wanted to find the original owner of the car and kill him.

dude...did you read the book? it is a good book, you should read it. i believe george wants to fix the car up and sell it so he can make some money to move his wife away from the valley of ashes where she is having an affair.
