legal if u have a permit. but r u insane? lol
where on earth would u keep a black bear?
there is no way you can give him the room he needs to lead a happy healthy life..
When people buy bears... and then they get big.. and dont have enough room for them.. they turn them over to us.. ( wildlife rehabilitators)... and what do we do w/ them??? Its illegal for us to release them back into the wild!!!! the poor bear has no choice but to live its entire life in a freakin zoo...
Is that what you want for your baby bear?? Im not trying to be a witch.. just reconsider. :)

sorry.. didnt mean to be rude.. im sorry.

That depends on many factors. You would have to check each State to find out their regulations on black bears. Then each County and each City. The reason being not all regulations or ordinances are the same everywhere. Many places virtually have no laws regarding none native animal species.Where I live it is illegal to own or posses a black bear less you are licensed.Though I could have a Tiger and not have to have any paper work what so ever.
Why you would want a bear (assuming you are looking into getting one) is beyond me.Sure they are cute when little but grow quickly. Not to mention less you know exactly how to care for one and the proper handling you probably are biting off more then you could chew. Not to sound damning but unless you are an expert with bears and have the knowledge of working with them a bear has a high potential of being an unmanageable animal that ends up being in some rescue home or kept locked in a cage that is generally way to small. If you are seriously thinking about getting a bear please think about the bear long before you ever think about yourself.

Where people not freak out and you may need a permit. I have known people with Tigers and they were gentle as I played with them, but, because people were freaking, they had to give them up to a zoo.
