It's pretty well known that the world's oil supply is depleting. Why are we spending time invading Iraq and planning to invade other countries to get oil when we could be spending time finding another solution? (don't tell me we aren't there for the oil at all, I won't have it!)
Sure there is enough for our lifetime, but is the struggle really worth it? There are other options, many vehicles use them everyday. So why aren't we spending our $$, time and resources on making our own solution, instead of expecting the rest of the world to give us what's theirs or destroying the arctic refuge?

I see people saying it's cost effective...how many other pointless things do we put our hard earned money towards that aren't cost effective? Fighting a sensless war isn't cost effective. If oil wasn't an issue, then there would be nothing to fight for and nothing to worry about. Gas prices wouldn't be rising. Is it the American way not to worry about something until it's too late?

And no I don't want to walk or ride my bike. That's why I am concerned!!! The way gas prices are rising, that's what I will be doing before too long!

President Bush had the chance to be a truly great president on Sept 12, 2001. That is when he had the opportunity to announce a New Manhattan Project to get the US off of its oil binge and into renewable alternative energy.
We have the means to build an entirely new economy around biofuels (diesel too, not just ethanol), photovoltaic, hydrogen fuel cell, and wind power to begin with, which would involve massive construction projects; an endless supply of research, development, manufacturing, and engineering jobs; and the opportunity for profits on an unforseeable scale, at first domestically , and later internationally as the oil everybody uses inexorably dwindles out.
He had that chance, but he chose the opposite path, and here's the pisser: we're STILL going to have to make the switch in our lifetimes! There's no way around it, so why not start right away??
Too much easy money to be made during the demise of business as usual, I fear.

"What will happen when the world runs out of its natural resources gas and oil.?", people have been saying same thing since 1800's but is it yet?
There is still "way to much" of gas and oil left in he planet. I was watching in T.V. and it said..in some North part of Canada...there is enough of oil resource that it can fulfill the demand for coming 100 years (1 century)...the difference is the oil in that place needs much of refining than oil found in Middle East...which makes it costly than the oil in Middle East...that's y it is not in use. Beside, the South pole's (specifically, Antarctica) oil is not even touched.
"Necessity is the mother of Invention", Incase, gas and oil run out we master minds will find one way or another...that is y we are humans...we don't live in condition as other species but we make 'em as it suits us. Suppose, a Tiger with poor vision might die because he won't be a good hunter but a human with poor vision uses glasses/ contacts and he is just as normal.

Ok. The simple answer is just do a little bit of research on oil and the everyday things that we actually need it for such as food and containers of food, (yes I know but trust me you will be surprised I was) then you will understand the enormity of the situation we are up against in trying to get off of our dependency on oil. Since we have built our whole way of living around the use of oil our whole way of living must change to lessen our dependency and how many people do you know who are willing to change their way of life today? I don't know anyone who wants to give up any of the luxuries they own or have use of today. Not one person. Honestly to get what I mean just do a little bit of research on oil. I thought just like you that it will be easy to solve but no sorry just not so simple I am afraid.

There is a better solution: Build nuclear power plants instead of burning natural gas for production of electric energy. This would also solve the "problem" of CO2 emissions from coal-fired power plants.
Then convert cars to use natural gas. No need for fancy new technology.

Nobody has come up with a more cost efficient resource yet and we have spent millions of tax dollars in the last 20 years trying. Face it, we are dependant on oil and will be into the forseeable future.

Wrong. There is enough oil to last for hundreds of years. Hydrogen is predicted to replace the oil long before then. The hydrogen will be generated cleanly and inexpensively by nuclear powerplants.
It is now known Canada has larger oil reserves than Saudi Arabia. China is over in Canada trying to lock in as many oil agreements as then can.
Canada is the largest supplier of foreign oil to the U.S..

Finally, someone with some sense asks a question. Spend $300 billion on decreasing our dependence on foreign oil not invading Iraq.

Unfortunately, I think it's more business related. Researching alternatives cost money and, let's just face it, a lot of the higher ups are still getting a LOT of income from oil.

Yep...Bush is an oil man, I think he actually has 30 weight motor oil pumping through his veins. I agree with your post 100% though. Nothing our leaders do makes any sense at all. Pure Stupidity.

Even if we spend massive amounts of money to develop alternative energy sources, it will still take years to convert to that energy source, especially when it comes to cars.
