Hardly any at all, ignore the bio pic claims, they're always over-blown. She is just one of many hispanic entertainers to make it big, there was no big color barrier for her to cross, her music is pretty forgettable. Basically, she ends up being just another minor nostalgia sign post.

First off, we must remember that Selena was an American of Latin decent. I think a lot of people just think of her as Mexican and forget that Selena was born in the United States and had never lived in Mexico (her grandparents were born in Mexico). She didn't even know how to speak Spanish when she first started singing in Spanish.

Selena obviously made a huge impact on the Hispanic world, but she also made a ripple among people that were not Hispanic in the United States. Young girls and teenagers of all races looked up to Selena for being the woman she was and the status she obtained. She was a young woman that was dominating the Tejano music industry that had always been a man's world. That was an accomplishment in itself. Not to mention that she had a mind for business by opening two boutiques and salons. She had learned Spanish, gave time to many charities and took time out of her schedule to speak to schools. She put a lot of emphasis on education and staying in school. Selena's generation of fans has grown tremendously due to the release of Dreaming of You album in 1995 and the Selena movie in 1997 through the United States and other countries. If there was ever a role model it was her. But, like I stated earlier, Selena was American. She was grateful for her fame and fourtune and gave back as much as she could in her short 23 years.

A very interesting questions because she made a very large impact and splash being a popular singer, but how long will it last? When will she be forgotten?

At the very least she made an impression on both young girls of Hispanic descent and that will last for their generation. She also made a difference for the Hispanic community, as a singer and popular personality.

My guess is, however, that like most stars that never quite made it huge, she will drift into the darkness of forgottenness after one generation, if not sooner, or as soon as another fresh, young and sparkling figure arises within the Hispanic community.
