Commonly available tortoises:
GOOD BEGINNERS-
Greek or Mediterranean Spur-thighed (Testudo graeca)
Hermann's (T. hermanni)
These tortoises are fairly cheap, readily available as captive bred (low wild population impact), smaller, and pretty easy to care for.
-------------------------------
INTERMEDIATE-
Red-foot Tortoise (Geochelone carbonaria)
Russian (T. horsfieldi)
Marginated (T. marginata)
This group is a bit trickier, either in size, humidity needs, hibernation, or other details. Russians are commonly sold as beginners, but an awful lot of people who get them have difficulty keeping them alive for more than a few years.
----------------------------------------------------
ADVANCED but available-
Sulcata (Geochelone sulcata)
Leopard (G. pardalis)
These guys are HUGE- small and cute for years, but they can get really, really big- good for an outdoor pen in a warm, dry location (American Southwest), but not for many people.

A tortoise is a stable puppy in case you desire to easily be conscious and not cuddle and stuff. yet remember they are costly pets and that they stay for a very long term! And in case you're able to desire to correctly known the thank you to safeguard them, bypass to Petco's web site and get carry of a care sheet. desire I helped!
