Is it betta mating season? My bettas(male CT and a female) are flaring a lot. they've been kept together in a seperated 1 gal tank for about a month and they've rarely flared. The male's color changed from light blue to dark blue and so has the female's.

Any season is the right season if they are in good condition. Apparently your's are now. They are probably ready to breed if you wanted to and have everything else ready.

They should only be put together when the male is building bubble nests, indicating that he is ready to breed. As soon as they do, you remove her. There is no such thing as mating season for bettas. If he isn't building bubble nests, then he most likely isn't ready to breed.

Sounds like courtship :)

You'll know that they're ready to get serious if he starts building a nest. Put them together and let them spawn. Then remove her. Otherwise? He'll kill her. He'll tend to the eggs and the fry for a few days afterwards. Then he'll have to be moved.
